HISTORY AND ROOTS

Erik Wilson, a proud native of Oak Cliff and a lifelong advocate for his community, has lived the story of Dallas District 8. From growing up in Alta Mesa, attending Kennedy-Curry Middle School (now Royce West Leadership Academy), and graduating from the Business Management Center High School, Erik’s roots run deep in this community. For 25 years, he has called District 8 home and remains an active, proud member of Friendship-West Baptist Church.

Erik’s journey to running for city council began with wanting to be a change agent. As a young man, he rode the city bus to school and Red Bird Mall, passing the same empty fields and aging buildings that still exist today. Later, experiences in other cities opened his eyes to communities with smooth streets, thriving parks, clean environments, and diverse dining and grocery options.

When Erik asked who was responsible for shaping such vibrant communities, he was told, “Your city councilperson.” That moment ignited a spark. Erik realized District 8 deserved the same comforts and opportunities other neighborhoods outside of Oak Cliff enjoy. With a vision for safe streets, strong infrastructure, and a more vibrant economy, Erik decided to run for city council to ensure the community he loves flourishes for future generations.

VISION FOR THE DISTRICT

My vision for District 8 is a thriving, safe, and inclusive community where every resident has access to quality housing, reliable infrastructure, good jobs, and excellent educational opportunities. Together, we will foster economic growth, protect our neighborhoods, and build a brighter future for everyone in District 8

MISSION STATEMENT

Empowerment and Progress

My vision for District 8 is to create a thriving, safe, and inclusive community where every resident feels empowered to achieve their fullest potential. This means ensuring access to quality housing, modern and reliable infrastructure, and good-paying jobs that strengthen families and uplift our local economy.

I am committed to fostering public safety by promoting community policing, investing in programs that address the root causes of crime, and building trust between law enforcement and residents.

Empowerment is at the heart of my vision. I will create opportunities for residents to actively shape decisions that affect our district through transparent communication, inclusive town halls, and community advisory boards.

Progress for District 8 means equitable access to resources, thoughtful development that respects our history and culture, and ensuring every voice is heard and valued. Together, we will build a brighter, more substantial District 8 that leads with innovation, compassion, and resilience for future generations.
